Near the barn and the blacksmith shop, Rika grew produce for her guest's meals at the roadhouse. Rika raised root vegetables, a hearty variety of cucumbers, fast growing leaf vegetables, flowers and herbs. Adjoining her garden were fields of hay and grain, and a small apple orchard. Vibrant flowers and huge vegetables are still cultivated in this garden, as well as strawberries transplanted from the woods where Rika's first berry plants ran wild. In sunny weather, this is a popular place to lean against the fence and visit with friends.
