Hematite and Pearl Earrings

Hematite, or more appropriately Alaska Black Diamond, has been associated with Alaska since early Russian days. Lord Baranof had skilled Aleut silversmiths make it into rings and pendants. The jewelry was then sent to the royal family of Czar Alexander I as a gift of loyalty from his Alaskan subjects. It is still given today as a token of friendship and faithfulness.
