In 1907, this outpost station was bult to maintain the telegraph
system constructed by Lt. Billy Mitchell and the U.S. Signal Corps.
This was the first connection between Washington D.C. and military
personnel in Alaskan outposts. The WAMCATS (Washington-Alaska
Military Cable and Telegraph System) operated until 1926, when
the telegraph was replaced by a 50-watt radio.
